SENATOR TIM SCOTT (R-SC): MAKING THE AMERICAN FAMILY TRULY ONE

The killing of two African-American men by two police officers followed by the assassination of five policemen in Dallas while safeguarding protesters in a march organized by Black Lives Matter brought the problem of race relations sharply into focus for many Americans.

U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina took to the Senate floor to urge Americans to make this time of universal dismay a beginning point for a new effort to make the American family truly one.

In three 20-minute speeches on three successive days in mid-July 2016 he put the problem of race relations in context, described his own experiences as a black elected official and offered suggestions on how Americans can work to come closer together.
