Obama Undermining America: 2012 Archives

With Obama, you must always watch as well as listen because it's not what he says, it's what he does.

Does Obama want economic growth? Maybe, even probably, not.

Consider Michael' Barone's observation:

Obama seeks to advance what Alexis de Tocqueville in "Democracy in America" called "soft despotism," with "a network of small, complicated, painstaking rules" -- think Obamacare -- to "finally reduce ... each nation to being nothing more than a herd of timid and industrious animals of which government is the shepherd." Or so it seems to me. If so, why not risk a recession? It would keep the herd in need of shepherding.

Obama wants to bring the rich down even if the consequences are that the poor get poorer. Overall, the result is more people in the control of the government.

Some of the powerful prefer their benign despotism promoting equality of misery over opportunity and prosperity. Obama seems to fit that bill.

Even before Obama became president, Rush Limbaugh created quite a stir by saying he hoped Obama failed. He had accurately assessed Obama as a European socialist (or worse) and would do the nation harm as he sought to make the U.S. like the failing states of Western Europe. He was right.

Obama shot entitlement spending to heights never before seen in the America. Federal expenditures soared to 25% of GDP, 25% higher than than the traditional level of 19-20% that had existed for decades. Federal revenues normally run about 17-19% of GDP, so modest deficits do occur with regularity. By increasing federal spending so sharply in a recession when revenues actually fall lower than usual Obama produced the nation's first trillion deficit, with three more following. Debt exploded from about $9 trillion to more than $16 trillion.

This was no accident. It was deliberate, meant to do damage to the American economy and force cuts in spending for national defense. As others besides Limbaugh have also put the pieces together, it has become clear Obama resents America's success, that he wants rich, white Americans to pay as he distributes their wealth to those of color he fancies have suffered at the hands of the whites of the world. Straight from Jeremiah Wright's sermons where "white folks' greed runs a world in need."

And now we have four more years of the Obama agenda. He wants to destroy the American system of free enterprise and replace equality of opportunity with equality of result. As the Hungarian refugee Thomas Peterffy, who succeeded beyond his dreams in America, said, socialism, communism, yes, makes the rich poorer but the poor poorer still.

Who will stop Obama? He has no concern about an election anymore. He will do what he pleases. He has already shown he will defy the limits of the Constitution. He will flex his muscles, as he has done trying to force religious institutions to assist in performing abortions and sterilization in violation of the First Amendment. He will veto any bills to restrain him that reaches the White House. As part of the retribution he seeks, he will live fabulously well on the taxpayers' dime: Last year, it cost $1.4 billion to take care of Obama and his family as they vacationed and traveled the world.

John Hinderaker yesterday put this frightening situation as clearly as it can be said. Never have we had a government intent on doing the American people harm.

There was a time when people assumed that if America's future was under attack, it must come from a foreign source-like, say, Japan at Pearl Harbor. Those days are long gone. Now, our decline is no one's fault but our own. We elect leaders who are ignorant of America's history and contemptuous of its values. The currency in which this ignorance and contempt is expressed is government spending. I am not sure I can fully explain the logic, but those who are filled with hatred for the first 200 years of American history want-for some reason-America's government to accumulate ever more power and to spend unprecedented amounts of money. Does that make sense? Seemingly not, but it is the world in which we live: the entity that is most bent on destroying the private economy of the United States of America, until recently the envy of the world, is our own government.

What are the prospects for Obama's second term? The environment he created for himself would suggest it will be a bad four years for him and the country. Obama

ran a viciously negative campaign against a thoroughly decent man, and he did everything that he could to divide the nation bitterly along racial, ethnic, and sexual lines. It worked in the end, but it has left a bad taste in many mouths, and payback is in the offing.

Besides the sour taste from his despicable campaign, citizens will be experiencing the burdens of the laws he rammed through Congress with Democrat-only votes -- Obamacare and Dodd-Frank, for example, the implementation of which he delayed until 2013. HIgher taxes, more regulation, health care rationing and so on. How about the path of reform? What about the unsustainable entitlements? Obama has already told his union buddies there will be nothing done to entitlements while he is president. Irresponsible.

The brilliant political observer Michael Ramirez is able to capture pure meaning in his drawings, as in this one pointing out the source of the Benghazi cover-up lies is Obama himself. Far be it for Obama to let the nation know that al-Qaeda was indeed not near death, as he had been loudly proclaiming since the death of Bin Laden.

Obama is pushing welfare spending up higher and higher to provide government jobs for his followers not to take care of the poor. This year welfare spending per poverty household was $60,000, but their incomes were only about $20,000. So the rest is sopped up by the government bureaucracy and it gets bigger and bigger under Obama. Congress does not stop it because the Republican Senate refuses to pass a budget, so Obama's spending is unconstrained. This defiance of the Constitution is breathtaking, but no one is taking steps in court or otherwise to stop it. Why? Fear that the liberal courts will side with Obama and set a terrible precedent? It is all a charade. The House passes a sensible budget and the Senate doesn't take it up. The president submits a budget and all parties reject it. So the Leviathan just keeps spending.
