CHATHAM RTC'S NEXT MEETING: MONDAY, APRIL 7TH, 5 P.M. CHATHAM COMMUNITY CENTER. COME AND TALK ABOUT SOME REALLY IMPORTANT ISSUES.

The regular meeting for April is Monday, April 7th (today!) at 5 at the Chatham Community Center. All Republicans and others dedicated to a land of freedom and equal opportunity for all are welcome. Call Marie Acton at 508 945 2150 for additional information.

We will report on what's happening politically and on what we, your committee, is doing.

For example, this Saturday, April 5th, we had a wonderful time at our first event in our new "Celebrating the Spirit of America" series. Despite the anxiety and despair caused by the Obama Democrats' attacks on our American values, the capitalist economy and our personal health care choices, we continue to believe America is great and will be great again once Democrats are no longer stifling our choices, our job growth and our freedoms.

We plan to get into some serious discussion at the meeting and we hope you will read what follows to get attuned and will show up to let us know how you see things in the world today.

It happens that in the past week two great statements were made that are must reading. One is by Professor Thomas Sowell of Stanford's Hoover Institution. The other is by Charles Koch, the CEO of America's largest privately owned company Koch Industries. Charles Koch and his brother David have been the targets of character assassination by highly placed Democrats unparalleled in modern American political history.

If you just look at what they are saying and doing, Democrat leaders at the national level and in many states are traitors to what has made America great, the things that JFK valued such as a bubbling, vibrant, free economy. Democrats have turned on its head perhaps JFK's most famous statement: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

Today's Democrats are coaxing citizens to rely on government handouts, to forget about improving themselves, getting jobs and helping themselves, their families and the economy grow and prosper. Instead, get disability payments because you're depressed, sign up for food stamps and "free" (that is, paid for by someone else) healthcare and you don't have to work at all: You can be a poet, as Democrat Nancy Pelosi said.

That's not the America of JFK, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln or even Harry Truman. Democrat elites show their hatred for what those presidents stood for. Those presidents were for the people. Today's Democrats are for the government and their control of it and control of the people they were supposedly elected to serve. They have turned on their own people and made the Democratic Party into something imported from Europe if not Russia.

Obama is the exemplar of this attitude. He just doesn't like America. He pretends when he thinks he needs to. We are no longer a Christian country, he says. At least in the White House, that is true. Obama seems to celebrate all the important days of Islam, but only works a Christian day in once in awhile. He is the only president never to go to a D-Day ceremony. We could go on.

Why is Obama undercutting America? Is it deliberate? More than a few believe so.

Read what an exasperated distinguished great American has to say about this. Dr. Thomas Sowell, a fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, is among today's most perceptive thinkers and writers. A few days he issued a two-part essay about Obama's foreign policy that is essential reading. His observations have implications for what Obama and his Democratic accomplices are doing domestically as well.

Despite the damage the Obama Democrats have already done to this nation, Dr. Sowell, like us, believe we can resume our trajectory of greatness once we clean house of those undercutting America. We can start with the 2014 elections and see Obama and his like-minded Democrats gone in January, 2017. Hopefully, the anti-American left will then have far fewer advocates left among Democratic officeholders.

Click here to read both parts of Dr. Sowell's important essay. He is saying what others are afraid to say.

It's not enough for the far left Democrats and their accomplices in the media to pursue their goal of turning America into just another would be socialist paradise, they must also kill all criticism of what they are doing.

And they are having great success. People are afraid to speak out. They will be vilified. "Political correctness" is their biggest weapon in shrinking the idea of free speech to a joke.

The First Amendment is a prime target: Not only is it free speech that must be strangled, freedom of religion must go, too, because there is only one religion - "Government is good and all powerful and will take care of you, believe in government." And behind the curtain is not the Wizard of Oz, but Democrat socialists controlling our lives and telling us what to do.

Prime targets of such vilification are Charles and David Koch, who run the largest privately owned business in the United States Koch Industries. They are Republicans.

Democrat Majority Leader in the U.S. Senate Harry Reid, from the safety of the Senate floor where he cannot be sued for slander or libel, attacks and attacks these successful men in his promotion of class warfare as a way to get the "99%" to hate the "1%" and vote Democrat. The media chorus repeats his character assassination lies and what does the average citizen know? Only what he sees and hears from the mainstream media -- led by the New York Times, the Washington Post and the Boston Globe.

Charles Koch decided to speak out and the Wall Street Journal published his statement this past week. To read it in full, click here.

Mr. Koch's opening words contain a stunning accusation, which is undeniably true:

I have devoted most of my life to understanding the principles that enable people to improve their lives. It is those principles—the principles of a free society—that have shaped my life, my family, our company and America itself.

Unfortunately, the fundamental concepts of dignity, respect, equality before the law and personal freedom are under attack by the nation's own government.

Think of that -- the words that are highlighted. Our government is attacking us, betraying us.

What are these Democrats in power seeking to accomplish? Control of us.

The central belief and fatal conceit of the current administration is that you are incapable of running your own life, but those in power are capable of running it for you. This is the essence of big government and collectivism.

Thomas Jefferson, a Republican at heart, knew of this danger, as Mr. Koch points out:

More than 200 years ago, Thomas Jefferson warned that this could happen. "The natural progress of things," Jefferson wrote, "is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground." He knew that no government could possibly run citizens' lives for the better. The more government tries to control, the greater the disaster, as shown by the current health-care debacle. Collectivists (those who stand for government control of the means of production and how people live their lives) promise heaven but deliver hell. For them, the promised end justifies the means.
Instead of encouraging free and open debate, collectivists strive to discredit and intimidate opponents. They engage in character assassination.

Serious stuff. But we have to join the battle. We have a role to play in our small corner of the world. We want America to be America -- a land of freedom and equal opportunity for all, just as Abraham Lincoln wanted it to be.

THIS MORNING, SATURDAY, APRIL 5TH, THE CHATHAM RTC LAUNCHES THE "CELEBRATING THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA" MOVIE SERIES AT THE CHATHAM ORPHEUM THEATER

America is certainly experiencing great difficulties under the present Democratic administration in Washington, but, nonetheless, we remain Americans proud of our past and confident of our future.

Consequently, we are starting up a movie series at the Chatham Orpheum Theater downtown on Main Street on Saturday morning April 5th to remind us all of the great spirit of America that still endures in the hearts of Americans.

The first movie "Argo" celebrates the heroic rescue in 1980 of six American diplomats trapped in Tehran during the Iranian hostage crisis incredibly engineered and carried out by an obscure CIA technician specializing in disguises Tony Mendez. Ben Affleck plays Tony. The movie won Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

We also will be recognizing and thanking Michelle DeSilva, who leads Cape Cod Cares 4 the Troops for the great work they do sending care packages to our service men and women overseas.

Every day American heroes be they in the military or civilian life are doing extraordinary things in defense of our nation and fellow Americans. We need to remind ourselves constantly of their service and their sacrifices and to acknowledge and express our appreciation to them and those who support them.

Doors open at 8:45. The suggested donation per person is $20 (pay at the door) for a light breakfast and the movie, to be shown at 9:30 after the recognition of Michelle DeSilva -- and to help with our 2014 election campaign for a better America.

Service men and women, VFW and American Legion members can attend free of charge, but please call to reserve in advance if possible to 508 945 2150.

To reserve and make donations for any number of seats from one to ten online, click here.

Or, if it's a last minute thing, just come and pay at the door!

When you're coming please bring along any of the items listed below that Cape Cod Cares 4 the Troops can send along to our men and women in uniform overseas. Click on list to enlarge.

See you bright and early Saturday, April 5th, 8:30 or so for a time to feel proud to be American.

CHATHAM RTC MEETS MONDAY, MARCH 17TH, 5 P.M., HOW TO WIN ON ELECTION DAY IN NOVEMBER

Our March meeting is this coming Monday, March 17th, 5 p.m., at the Chatham Community Center. The minutes of our February 4th meeting can be read by clicking here. 2014.02.04 CRTC Minutes.pdf

The Agenda for Monday's meeting is here and can be printed out and brought to the meeting: 2014.03.17 CRTC Meeting Agenda.pdf

For the elections this year the Republican town committees of the Lower Cape are working together as never before to turn out the biggest vote for Republican candidates we possibly can.

We all know how important these November elections are for the nation and for Massachusetts. It's up to us the voters to get America and Massachusetts back on a sound fiscal footing conducive to economic and job growth.

Collectively, the town committees have to raise at least $50,000 to do the job in the 4th Barnstable District that needs to be done. This is about what a candidate for state representative needs to raise to have a fighting chance to win her race. We are about 30% on the way to our goal. Through events and fundraising appeals we hope to reach our target by mid-summer, which is when our personal campaigning -- involving door-to-door contact -- will move into high gear.

Our job is two-fold: To persuade folks that this year above all for the sake of our future they should vote Republican and to get them to turn out to vote on Election Day, November 4th.

In addition to funds, we will need volunteers and in the coming weeks we will be reaching out for help.

Upcoming events.

Our next event, which we urge you to attend, is our "Celebrating the Spirit of America" motion picture day on Saturday, April 5th in the morning. Suggested donation is $20. All profits from the event will go to our Election Fund. We need your support, but it would be a wonderful tribute to have a strong turnout to celebrate the spirit that has made America great.

Read the details in the flyer below; click on it to enlarge.

Chatham Argo Flyer.jpg

Harwich event. We are fortunate that our friends in the Harwich RTC will be hosting a wine tasting and candidate reception just a week later on Saturday, April 12th. Early indications are that there will be a strong presence of statewide as well as congressional and local candidates. It should be well worth attending -- $30 each, $50 for two, includes the wine tasting. For reservations, call Jan Bowers at 508-432-8895 or email Dick Bowers at bayview181@yahoo.com. For details, click here.

We hope you will join us Monday at the Chatham Community Center at 5 for the campaign planning meeting and on Saturday morning to honor the spirit that made America great and will make it great again.

CHATHAM RTC's PRESENTATION BY MASSVICTORY A SMASH SUCCESS; NEXT CHATHAM RTC MEETING MONDAY, MARCH 17TH.

MASSVICTORY PRESENTATION IN CHATHAM SATURDAY BOFFO!

We all know how important it is to win in November. Yesterday, MassVictory, the grassroots organizing arm of the Massachusetts Republican Party, staged a nuts-and-bolts, hands-on demonstration of the new GET OUT THE VOTE tools we will be using for the 2014 election.

What a breathtaking improvement over what we have had to work with in the past!

This was an important first test involving ordinary volunteers who will be the ones doing the work on the ground to get out the votes for all Republicans for November 4th. It passed with flying colors!

We had a great turnout of about 50, mostly from the Lower Cape, folks who were curious to find out what the new tools were all about.

The reaction was "excitement" among all those attending, including those in their mid-80s as well as those in their 40s.

The Lower Cape town committees of Chatham, Harwich, Orleans and Eastham will be taking the lead in equipping volunteers with the know-how to produce victory for all Republicans on the ballot on November 4th.

We will have more to say in subsequent emails and in our committee meetings.

NEXT MEETING OF THE CHATHAM REPUBLICAN TOWN COMMITTEE MARCH 17TH.

The next meeting of the Chatham Republican Town Committee will be held Monday, March 17th at 5 p.m. in the Chatham Community Center. It will be an important one, so be sure to come.

A NATIONAL BLACK EYE FOR THE MASSACHUSETTS DEMOCRATIC STATE ADMINISTRATION OF DEVAL PATRICK. EVEN DEMOCRATS SAY SO.

How bad, really, is the Democrat-run state administration of Governor Deval Patrick? A prime example is the way it has destroyed the health care system that Governor Romney put in place that reduced the number of uninsured in Massachusetts to 3%. Governor Patrick insisted in installing Obamacare and it has been an utter fiasco, wasting countless hundreds of millions of dollars and jeopardizing the health and lives of people left uninsured. Read the sorry story of gross incompetence.

CHATHAM RTC LINCOLN BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION WELCOMED KARYN POLITO AND OTHER CANDIDATES WITH A STANDING ROOM ONLY CROWD.

On Sunday, February 9th, the Chatham RTC hosted Republican candidate for Lt. Governor Karyn Polito and, for the first time together, the FOUR Republicans seeking to be the next congressman in the 9th Congressional District, displacing career Democrat William Keating.

Karyn was dynamic and wowed the enthusiastic crowd of about 125.

IMG_9093.JPG

Each of the four congressional candidates have credentials and real world (private sector!) experience that far exceed Keating's. Each impressed in their five minute talks: John Chapman of Chatham, Mark Alliegro of Falmouth, Vince Cogliano, Jr of Pembroke and Dan Shores of Sandwich.

On the Cape Cod front, we have two districts that can be turned Republican. We have strong candidates in both. Tim Whelan of Brewster, recently retired from more than 20 years with the state police and a veteran of the Marine Corps Reserve, is running for an open seat in the 1st Barnstable District. Adam Chaprales, a former Sandwich selectman, is taking on a first term Democrat in the 2nd District, which traditionally goes Republican.

In addition to the candidates, Cape Cod's two representatives to the Massachusetts Republican State Committee Judy Crocker and Fran Manzelli were in attendance.

All of the candidates have websites up where contributions can be made. Click here to see the list.

This was the Chatham RTCs Third Annual Celebration of Abraham Lincoln's Birthday. The day's "history lesson" paralleled 1864, 150 years ago this year, when the Civil War and Lincoln's life were approaching their climax in 1865. In 1864 Lincoln was re-elected handily by ten points, but he swept Massachusetts with 72%. Now, that's a challenge.

The committee headed by Vice Chairman Diane Bronsdon did a fantastic job. In addition to Diane, Ann DePatie, Dave Nunnally, Elaine Gibbs, Gigi Gerstle, John and Mary Jane Crea, John Loconto, Marie Acton, Sherie and Walter Bush and Richard Bertocchi have our thanks and appreciation.

6. The 2014 elections: Discussion of their importance, the current state of play and how everyone can help. The gubernatorial and 9th Congressional races are top priorities..

7. 2014 Elections for Chatham and the Lower Cape:

Since there may be no Republican candidates for state representative or state senate in our 4th Barnstable district it means the full responsibility for getting out the Republican vote in the district rests with the Republican town committees of these towns - Chatham, Harwich, Orleans, Eastham and Truro.

One-third of Brewster is the 4th Barnstable, but 2/3rd is in the 1st and the 1st has an important and winnable state rep race. Wellfleet and Provincetown do not have RTCs.

Every "extra" vote we get for Republicans in the 4th Barnstable helps all state candidates and the congressional candidate.

It is therefore up to this committee to recruit volunteers and raise funds for the grassroots GET OUT THE VOTE campaign for all Republicans who will be on our ballot on November 4th.

It also means to the extent we can that we help out the state rep Republicans in the 1st, 2nd and 5th Barnstable districts where there will be contests with Democrats.

8. GET OUT THE VOTE (GOTV) explained. By personal contact we will reach out to independents and Republicans who don't vote regularly about the importance of this election, how important their votes are and how qualified the Republican candidates are.
