The ugly Human Rights Council at the United Nations dominated by dictators and human rights violators routinely spend the majority of their time condemning Israel to please the large number of Muslim countries on the Commission and in the UN (some 50+ countries). It commissioned the so-called Goldstone report on Israel's incursion into Gaza to put a stop to the relentless rocket firing into Israel that had terrorized its civilian population for far too long. Predictably, the Goldstone report condemned only Israel, claiming human rights violations. Arab nations have moved to have the General Assembly consider the report and have it referred to the Security Council.

A motion in the House of Representatives this past week urged the President and Secretary of State to oppose any endorsement or further consideration of the Goldstone report. The vote carried easily, 344-36-22.

Astonishingly, only four of the ten Massachusetts Members of Congress voted in the affirmative to support Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East. Cape Cod's Congressman Delahunt chose to vote present as did Congressman Tierney from the North Shore. McGovern (Worcester area), Olver (Berkshires) and Lynch (South Boston) all voted to please the Arab nations sponsoring the resolution.

The General Assembly approved the report, action which Arab nations took as a victory over Israel, since the report calls for Israel to investigate itself for war crimes.

Will Massachusetts Democratic Jews just shrug off these anti-Israel votes and continue to vote Democratic? Obama himself has shown continuing hostility towards Israel and indifference to the existential threat Iran is for Israel.
